Sophomore Robert Bouchonville (132 pounds) extended his season another week by taking fifth at the Division III Sectional Wrestling Tournament this weekend at Independence High School.
Although he won the alternate spot, he is not guaranteed a spot in the tournament. Bouchonville will get a chance to wrestle if one of the place winners in his weight is unable to compete.
Teammate Reggie Bouchonville (126) ends his season with two losses and did not qualify for the district tournament. He lost his first match to Josh Newman of Columbia, the number one seed, by a second period pin. He then dropped a close 5-2 decision to Nathan Jackson of Black River in the consolation round.
Bouchonville, seeded eighth, also lost his first match to the number one seed Parker Watson of LutheranWest by a pin in 2:17.
He then wrestled aggressively and won three matches in the wrestle backs. The first was a come-from-behind decision with six points earned in the third period. His next victory was a close 8-7 decision when he scored a takedown for the win after trailing 7-6. He lost the consolation semi final match by a 4:45 pin.
In the fifth place match, Bouchonville took an early 5-0 lead with a takedown and near fall points. His opponent, Antonio Zindrowski of Trinity, chipped away at the lead to tie the score 6-6 at the end of regulation. With only seven second left in the overtime period, Bouchonville scored a duck under takedown for the 8-6 victory.
Last season, after securing the alternate spot, Bouchonville had the opportunity to participate when another place winner could not wrestle. He will be hoping for the same fortune this week.
The district tournament will be held Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4 at Garfield Heights High School. Wrestling starts at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
