Barber returns to first shop

Manuel Espinoza will close his barbershop on East College Street next week and reopen on South Main Street where his career in began.

Espinoza is moving from his shop at 17 E. College St. due to renovations planned to the Apollo Theater by Oberlin College. He will move to the shop at 31 S. Main St., where he got his start as a barber.

In 1964 I started in that shop,” Espinoza said. “October, 1964, I came in and worked with Perry Walls as an apprentice barber. I like the idea of going back to the scene of the crime.”

He said he worked at that shop 14 years before moving around the corner to East College Street in 1978. Now, after nearly 33 years, he is returning to the address where he started.
